What is Gum Treatment?

Embarking on the journey to healthier gums begins with a thorough assessment of your gum health and overall oral condition. At every step of the process, our goal is to provide personalized care tailored to your specific needs.

Step 1: Periodontal Assessment

Your journey to healthier gums starts with a thorough examination of your gums and teeth. Dental X-rays will be taken to assess the bone level around your teeth which helps determine the severity of gum disease and any bone loss.

Step 2: Deep Cleaning (Scaling and Root Planing)

This procedure aims to remove plaque and tartar from below the gum line, using specialized instruments. Antibiotics may be prescribed to reduce bacterial infection and inflammation.

Step 3: Periodontal Review

Performed 4 to 6 weeks after deep cleaning to evaluate the response to treatment and determine the next steps.

Possible Need for Periodontal (Gum) Surgery

If there are areas of persistent deep pockets and significant bone loss, periodontal surgery may be recommended.

Open Flap Debridement Surgery

This involves lifting the gums to access and remove tartar deposits and then repositioning the gums to reduce pocket depths.

We understand that concerns about pain can be a barrier to seeking treatment for gum disease. Rest assured that modern dental techniques and anesthesia ensure that treatment is comfortable and minimally invasive.

Step 4: Periodontal Maintenance

Periodontal maintenance visits are crucial for preventing the progression of gum disease. They are typically recommended every three to four months for individuals with a history of gum disease.

At JDental Specialists, all procedures will be performed by a Periodontist (Gum Specialist), who is experienced in treating gum disease and specialized in periodontal care.
